![]() When the fire started I felt it was far enough away that there would be no worry of evacuation. Three days later it had consumed over 100,000 acres and headed my direction. I phoned the local fire dept. and asked would our area become evacuated, he suggested I stay alert of the warnings at Cal Fire. I was monitoring the warnings when we lost power, the warning then turned to Yellow meaning the threat was two hours away, yet with no power I had no way of knowing. The smoke became thick as fog and hot embers falling, two county sheriffs came and alerted us to evacuate, we had an hour. We grabbed what we could and fled with our 8 month old Border Collie. For two weeks we were camped at a Church parking lot, our home survived. Evacuation orders were lifted and now I am back home again. Much of the area where I grew up perished in the fire, the heart of the Sierras. It will take some time to catch my breath. This was my home for a few years, a cabin my sister built, perished.

continuum.outworldz.net:8002:Virtual_HG ![]() Having just received an email from Dr. Wallace J. Nichols about the loss of his home of 19 years during the recent CZU August Lightning Complex (map) fires, I am completely saddened. Over the years I read the many articles and stories written from that home, all the profound thoughts written down in the dimly lit study. One would never think that one day fire would reduce it to ashes. Dr. Nichols please know I have cherished your words and reflected on your thoughts which connected me to water. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved home, and beautiful forest. Slow Coast Home |
